Why I am ticked off

The Ranter
The Views of The Ranter

I have noticed lately that there are days I simply do not feel like writing anything, then I will be surfing the web and WHAM, something will hit me like the Oz house falling on the witch and I need to go off on something. The latest murders from Al Qaeda are a prime example of this little story.

I do have a few medical problems, darn, don’t we all, mine tend to pop up once in awhile and about the only thing I really want to do is stay in bed. Well, that is not me, so I do what is the next best thing, I stick to myself, surf the web and read anything I can get my hands on to keep my mind occupied. I was doing that when I came upon what Michelle Malkin is calling the Al Qaeda death porn video.

Seeing this sent me off into orbit somewhere around Pluto, oh, forgot they removed the planet status for that one, real dumb move on that one, but that’s where I ended up. My initial response was to scream, rant and rave loud enough in the house to send two 13-year-old teenagers packing to their rooms, just in the rare event it was intended for one or both of them.

Here is my problem with what is transpiring in our so-called war on terrorism. Like so many of the older bloggers ranting on our war I am an old combat vet, have seen the elephant a few times, don’t know if the new young Turks still call it that, but Wild Bill and others know and I have been shot at and missed as well as hit. One thing that destroys my mood is knowing if one of our men and women are taken prisoner than they are tortured and killed, not the POW thing, but outright murdered in cold blood.

In Viet Nam, we knew if captured it was over, we would have a rough time, but if we were resourceful and had a will to live, we would make it home again. It was not too much of a comfort knowing that or knowing that at times the enemy would actually place a bounty on one of our heads, but still we knew either we would take a few with us in a blaze of glory or live to fight another day. Sort of the warrior code and it kept many of us sane.

This is a war of a different nature altogether and it is being fought in a manner the warriors of my time would have had problems with. We were trained to win by any means necessary and if that meant killing as many of the enemy as we could, then so be it. We were not police officers walking around doing good deeds for humanity; we were trained killers, pure and simple. No, some of us did not like it and there are still a few of our brothers haunted to this day.

Today we have the finest, well-equipped and trained military in the world and we have our warriors doing just that, basic police duty. That is until shots are fired then they go into warrior mode, but not too much mind you, they are only allowed to go so far. If they go further then they are brought up on charges. What a country!

We are fighting not a standing army, but a civilian warrior, a guerilla and we are trained to fight this type of combat, but our troops are not allowed. If one of them is captured it is over, pure and simple. So, in effect that would mean saving the last bullet for yourself so as not to suffer from having your head cut off. That is a great thought to have in your mind and it is high time our country did something about it.

  1. I hate to say this, but I'm glad to see there is someone else having difficulty writing. I'm am feeling fatigue at best and absolutely overwhelmed on my worst days with the state of the world.

It's extraordinarily difficult for me in that I love our country; I have always supported the military and I absolutely disagree with the current state of our foreign policy {sic} for lack of a better term.

While I purposefully try to avoid it, I can not step away and not read or watch the news. I can not isolate myself. It's not that I want to know what's going on. I need to know. In short; I'm a news junkie.

Purposefully, I have been trying to blog about things other than politics. It just seems impossible to avoid coming back to the state of the world.

I just posted what is basically a question...assistance I need to help me understand what is going on with our military at the moment. Not the soliders, the "leaders". If you hav an opportunity, I'd appreciate you coming to share your insight.
