Unity in Iraq

The Ranter
The Views of The Ranter

My mornings consist of reading just about every news service, story and out of the way writing that I can find. Sometimes I will blog on something that catches my attention and other times I simply go on about my morning news routine.

I read an article at Fox News that my first thought was to go on to the next, reconsidered and went back to it. It goes into the possibilities of splitting Iraq into three separate states comprised of the three major religious sects in Iraq. This would be similar to Kurdistan, which is presently marketing itself as the “Other Iraq”, thanks to an American marketing firm, and I am sure this is fueling the fires within to split the country.

Of course, this latest political fiasco from Iraq only fuels the fires of the American media of a civil war and how it is tearing up Iraq, destroying anything and everything we are building. The media will go to any length to place the Bush administration in a bad light, history has shown they will even contrive news if they have to as they did during the elections which ended up costing the anchor his job.

Splitting the country into three autonomous states governed by each religion would be the worst possible solution to the unrest in Iraq. The violence it is experiencing is not related to the separation of powers or sects, but the desire by some in the minority to revert to the days of Saddam, returning him to power their ultimate goal.

If an example of financial failure is required, we need only to look to what was once the Soviet Union. The only individuals thriving in that country are working within organized crime. Where before we had one country with their finger on the bomb we now have multiple countries with nuclear weapon openly offered on the black market. Not too good of an example of progress when someone can purchase a nuclear submarine with crew as our intelligence service did not too long ago during a worldwide crime, weapons and drug investigation.

Thankfully, the proposal in the Iraqi parliament to split the country into three autonomous federations was thwarted due to pressure from pro-unity groups. We can only hope they continue their zest for unity and do not cave into the violence and threats from within.
