News from Iraq

Coalition forces have made progress the past few days in Baghdad in their quest to put an end to the violence that has been hitting the city.

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces successfully targeted and captured all three terrorists that they were seeking, plus 10 suspects during a raid northwest of Ramadi August 3.

BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers foiled a kidnapping attempt by four men disguised as Iraqi policemen in southeast Baghdad early today.

BAGHDAD – Soldiers from 4th Battalion, 1st Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, captured four suspected terrorists near the Al Najma Mosque in Baghdad’s Kadamiyah district at approximately 5 p.m. Sunday.

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces killed at least three terrorists during an air strike and multiple raids southeast of Baghdad the afternoon of Aug. 3.

Clear and compelling evidence led security troops to target terrorists known to have links to al-Qaida in Iraq vehicle borne improvised explosive device cell leaders in the region. The targeted terrorists were believed to be associated with the suicide bombing cells responsible for several recent attacks in Baghdad, including the July VBIED bombings in Sadr City that killed over 100 Iraqi citizens.

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces wounded one suspected terrorist and captured eight other suspects during simultaneous raids near Baqubah early July 4.

The targeted terrorists are associated with a senior leader within the al-Qaida in Iraq terrorist organization who was captured southwest of Baqubah in June. This individual had several terrorist cells reporting directly to him and has admitted to several attacks on innocent Iraqis, including women and children.

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces captured six men associated with terrorist activity, wounding one, during a raid northwest of Fallujah July 3.

The wounded enemy was maneuvering to gain a tactical advantage on the assault force and they engaged and detained him. The others were apprehended without incident.
