A right way and a wrong way

I try my best to avoid political ranting on either side of the coin. Yes, there have been times I have broken that little rule of mine, but not often. My one rule is we should support our elected officials in the performance of their duties, we elected them in a legal fashion and barring any illegal activities, (Mr. I am not a crook Richard M. Nixon) they will be representing our interest until their term is completed. Now that I have stated that I am going to break my rule, but actually, it does not apply to me, I do not live in New York and Sen. Clinton does not represent me. So, my turn.

Wild Bill has brought up an interesting point, or twenty, what transpired yesterday on the Senate floor in the “dressing down” of US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, in my opinion was unforgivable. It was purely a media event contrived by Sen. Clinton in which to score media points for her future stake towards the big White House run.

I am a veteran, I have seen the elephant more times that I care to think about (all the military and vets know of what I am speaking) and my life in some manner or another was always based on a form of quasi-military style. I was a soldier, not something special, a grunt, yes trained in a few things, how to leave a perfectly good airplane, nothing to help in the world, but when the big push comes to shove we are all trigger pullers. After that I spent my years on a police force driving a patrol car and doing my best to make a difference, same thing, shot at there as well and I am still around and kicking. The major reason a lot of military enter law enforcement is not to fight crime, ala Batman and Robin, but because they are familiar with the system and being a plain old beat cop is still in the military so to speak. Uniforms, ranks, everything is the same, it just feels good when we put it on, so that is where a lot of us migrate.

During the course of my entire time in and out of service, I was taught there are proper and improper ways to tell someone that you feel they may be wrong or did something that was not proper. Yes, there are times when someone needs to be reminded of something and doing that in front of their peers is the only way they will remember that they messed up, that is a dressing down.

Then there are those times when you feel that person totally crossed the line in the sand, not only crossed it, but drove over it, backed up and did it ten more times. Those occasions call for a sit down, one on one with that person where you can toss all the modes of address out of the window tell them what you think, what they did wrong and together you work out how to insure it does not occur again. If that fails then it is time for that person to hit the bricks, good-bye, so long don’t let the door hit you where Mother Nature spilt you.

What Sen. H. Clinton did to US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was wrong, pure and simple, not a dressing down, nothing except media points. Yes, Mrs. Clinton is intellectually a superior individual, just ask her, but as far as I am concerned not too bright when it comes to dealing with people, as yesterday clearly demonstrated. If she feels that showing the world that she was a spoiled whiner brat without the ability to communicate properly, then she succeeded and I am sure it was meant to help her future run for the White House and in my eyes she was wrong. That outburst clearly demonstrated the opposite, that she has no idea how to handle a stressful situation, other than hollering and stomping her feet a few times.
