Dixie Chicks keep singing

The Ranter
The Views of The Ranter

I confess that even as a full-blooded, 100% male I was and still am a fan of the Dixie Chicks. I mean, come on, these girls can belt out a song folks. And, lest we forget the great, “Earl had to Die”, what better anthem for every women who has ever been battered, bruised and belittled by a man who would refuse to ever stand up to another man, but give him the opportunity and he will take on his women in a heartbeat. Yep, they deserve just what Earl go and worse.

I recall the night I was watching the news when the Dixie Chicks spoke their peace in London during a tour engagement. It was a bad time for anyone to speak up against a war because it was just beginning, boots on the ground and all hell was about to break loose.

The Dixie Chicks decided they had to say something, anything and they had discussed their feelings before the show, they were not supporting this war and they were not happy. It was not on purpose that their comment took place before a song about a soldier boy, it just did. Call it Karma, bad timing, or just plain fed up and had enough. Whatever the case, the lead singer stood before a packed house and said that as Texans, they were ashamed of President Bush. Moreover, a pin could be heard dropped around the world.

To say that country fans can be a bit fussy and strange is putting it mildly, they were downright rude, threatening and worse. The chicks had to hire body guards due to death threats, come one folks, these are three females, what are they going to do go to Iraq and stop the war by themselves?

My first impression was good for them, no, I did not agree with them, not sure, where I am now, but at the time, my only thought was they had every right to say what they felt. Many individuals did not agree with my sentiment, but this is what America is all about, able to say, think, feel what we want, to support of not support that we choose, we are Americans and this is what we do.

These girls have taken a lot of heat and they are still cooking and let’s just hope they continue because they are great singers with great music.

Did you take too much of your meds today, Ranter ?? They didnt screw around with your head while you were in the hospital, did they ??

Natalie Mames is a fat-headed ditz that thanks cause she WAS popular, that everybody HAS to treat her like she has good common sense..

And besides that, she's beyond ugly.. She's FUGLY !! She has one of those faces like a Pug Bulldog..

If it weren't for the talent and voice of Marty Maguire, they never would have been as popular as they WERE.. And since she made her remarks, they have canceled a lot more concerts in Texas than G.W. has !!

When they were asked (before their remarks about G.W.) to go overseas and play for the Troops, they didnt just say no, they said "HELL NO" !!

So go ahead and put Brokeback Cowboys in the DVD player and turn the sound down and have the Chix(spit) on in the background..

I'll just stick with "Forever Hot" Gretchen Wilson and watch some midget porn !!

Gotta disagree with ya Ranter. While they sing like angels they planted the devil in my mind. Can't get past it, wish I could. They tromped on my heart. Wish I could be more forgiving. Can't.

Glad yer outta the hospital. Bad place to be for any length of time. Don't I know? Headed there now!!! Ha. ha.

Wild Bill. If you are going to talk about someone like dogs at least have the decency to get their names right.

The rest of that post didn't make any sense either, so I guess I can understand the incorrect names.

And it amazes me how many people cannot look past a political opinion to enjoy wonderful music. "Tromped on my heart", "Wish I could be more forgiving"????

That just floors me.

What in the hell did they do wrong?

By the way, all should go see the Dixie Chicks new movie, Shut up and Sing. It is a profound, honest, and personal look at the ignorance and hatred that was directed for them because of those 12 words.

A great movie indeed.

I knew that would draw a few comments, ok. Theu may just be something different to a lot of people. But, we are Americans and as such we can say whatever the hell we feel like saying. Not just say what the mainstream wants us to say, but speak from the heart.

To each their own, me, I am all for freedom of speech.

I thought Wild Bill made a lot of sense. I understood perfectly. And I soooo agree with Ranter. We ARE free to our own opinions and we do not always have to have the same ones.

I think what they said was rude and insulting. As much as I hate the word "inappropriate" in a public forum sums it up. I don't hate them, I do not wish them harm. It doesn't hurt me if they wish to make fools of themselves, I'm sure they have suffered for their opinion and attitude.

It's that ditty that goes...."he may be an idiot,,,,but, he's our idiot". Distinctly American. We vote with our hearts and minds in a free market. Toolin down the road one day with the radio on and heard some pretty voices, waited til the end of the song to hear who was singing. It was them, bummer. Quite sad.

Words mean things. And once said you can't take them back.

Hard lesson for them to learn.

I feel the same way about Barbara Streisand--beautiful music--just can't listen. I do not "hear" beauty only her political barbs in my head. It is a loss. And I feel it greatly. I'm just wired differently. So are many others.

I agree Mamabear,When she opened her mouth I about came unglued. Then it hit me, know what? This is what we are all about. Say what we feel, feel what we say. That is the beauty of our country.

I have been in countries where people walk on eggs, not a nice site. Do I agree with them? Not on my life, nope. but I will defend their right to say it.

May I just remind you folks that Hanoi Jane was in a good movie or two !! Need I say more ??

The Old Ranter said...

Hanoi Jane did a whole lot more than to open her huge un-American mouth. Remember the old days bud? Some General said that her and Joan Biaz should have their mouths sewn shut and there was not one, in my case, grunt or Marine that would not have turned down the assignment.

That broad actually sighted down an NVA antiaircraft wearing an NVA helmet!!!!

I recall standing in the red mud, swatting bugs, picking leeches and hating her even more. And she wonders why us guys have never forgiven her. HA!

There is such a thing as speaking your views and then being downright un-American. She passed that line long ago.

I posted the chicks to see what would happen. I know, bored. But, honestly, I do believe we all have our rights. It crosses the line when our men and women are in harms way, yes, do i hate them for it? No, they have their right. If they cross it as Jame did then all is fair in love and war.

Well if you respect their opinion to express their opinion, then I have every right to say that they suck and I don't like them and that I have not listen to the 4 CDs of theirs that I had previously bought.

I respect their right to speak out but that doesn't mean that everything that comes out their mouth is the gospel. In fact, it is just the opposite. They had diarrhea.

While I don't agree with the fact that they were threatened you got to admit that what they said wasn't smart if they wanted to stay on the side of patriotic country fans. You have got to see that they have hurt their careers but if making a statement is more important than money, OK!!!

Fishgutts said...

Oh ya, one more thing. If you are so anti-Bush and pro-troops, why not do a USO tour to prove it?? Put your butt where your mouth is - with the troops.

The Old Ranter said...

Yep, that got me too, they downright said no to the USO option, yet they had a soldier song out.Stupid is a stupid does.

Remember something, just because I support free speech and listened to them does not make the fact that I like them for what they did. Hell, I even saw a Fonda movie once, think she played a hooker or something.
