Now it begins.

The Ranter
The Views of The Ranter

It does not take too much of a trained eye to see which direction the fallout from the war in Iraq is presently heading, straight downhill.

Since the Democrats assumed control of the House and Senate, we have been inundated with many new theories on the war. I recall a few days ago listening to one such theory on a channel, I cannot recall right now, but they were discussing the possibility of legal action against the President for the invasion of Iraq. I remember distinctly that I said, “What the hell is this” and quickly turned up the volume just as it was ending. I searched the channels the rest of the day, but was unable to ascertain any further information on this subject.

Today I am reading an article pertaining to a television show which will discuss what a lot of American’s are not quite aware of, the quality of life for some of the severely wounded returning veterans of the war. The article titled, “The startling story of a wounded soldier” discusses the shows premise and the soldier they had followed up on for a year.

It was a moving article and the show will no doubt display the heroic struggle the young soldier must endure in his attempt to rejoin society and recapture a semblance of structure and normalcy to his life. The part that really got my attention was the closing of the article, which stated, “How awesome it is that this young man, once full of health and promise, can manage to find new hope. Yet how maddening, given what we know now, that he was put in harm's way through flawed planning and under false pretenses.”

I am sure most of you picked up on the same thing that I did, the closing sentence, which says, “Yet how maddening, given what we know now, that he was put in harm's way through flawed planning and under false pretenses

That puts it all in concisely, the manner in which this war will now begin playing out to America. No longer will it be our fight against terrorism, but flawed planning and false pretenses for now and evermore. It will only get worse too, this will grow like a cancer upon American and the wording will only worsen as the invasion plans begins to play out before our eyes on television. All the while individuals like bin Laden will sit back in their caves with a smug look on their face knowing they were right. Yes, we are the paper tiger and yes, all he had to do was play his cards right and public opinion would sway from support to questioning to tearing apart and analyzing every idea leading to the invasion.

It is a sad moment when we realize we were right and it is a sobering moment when we realize this could bring down a presidency.
